Applications are now open for this year’s Academus Education Summer School
Our Summer Schools are an amazing opportunity to learn more about the Ancient World, whether that’s through our interdisciplinary Classics Summer Schools or through an intensive language course in Greek or Latin. Our programmes are designed for senior school students aged 13-18.
This year we will be offering four courses:
Junior Classics Summer School
Senior Classics Summer School
Intensive Classical Greek Language
Intensive Latin Language
Our Junior and Senior Classics Summer Schools will give students an introduction to the Classical World through literature, history and culture with the opportunity to pick up a beginners language if they choose to do so. Students will be taught by tutors who have all been specially trained to deliver our courses. We hope to provide our students with three things: confidence, knowledge and passion. All of our modules have been designed exclusively for Academus use by academics and specialists so we can provide the very best experience for our students. The Junior School is tailored to students aged 13-15 in years 8, 9 and 10. Our Senior School is designed for students aged 16-18 in years 11 and 12.
Our intensive language schools are designed to take total beginners in Greek and Latin from scratch through to a comfortable level of understanding. The courses will be fast-paced and comprehensive. Students will do 5 hours of language study every day to familiarise themselves with the fundamentals of their chosen language. By the end of the week, students should be able to translate short passages in an Ancient Language and have a strong grasp of the grammar of either Greek or Latin. These courses are an excellent springboard for students about to start studying a language at university or can be done as a learning experience just for fun. Whilst we advise that our courses are fast-paced and challenging they are open to any age.
Our schools will be running for 2 weeks in the Summer of 2021.
Week 1: 26/07/21-30/07/21
Week 2: 2/08/21-6/08/21
We will be releasing full syllabuses for all our 2021 courses by the 15th of April.
