Simon Goldhill (Cambridge): Fighting O’ver the Stars: The Terrible Threat of Astrology in Late Antiquity’
This paper looks at the impact of astrology as a science on the prose and verse of late antiquity with a particular focus on some amazing texts by Gregory of Nazianzus and Nonnus of Panopolis, to explore how astrology opens a route into understanding changing ideas of temporality, history, prediction, and theology in a changing Christian intellectual environment.
