Dr Andrew Fear (University of Manchester): ‘Blood and Sand: Rome’s Gladiators’

This talk, by Dr Andrew Fear, explores not only the nature of the games themselves, but also how they were a vital part of wider Roman society. Dr Fear is a lecturer in Classics at Manchester University. His main interest is in Roman history, particularly of the Western empire (Spain/Portugal). Closer to home has authored books on the Roman archaeology of Cheshire and Staffordshire.
