University of Leeds Classics Competition (KS3 and KS4)

The Classics Competition has run for over 70 years at the University of Leeds, and is a celebration of Classics, Reading and Performance for young people studying classics, drama, english, and history.

The competition is a great opportunity to introduce classics to students not already studying it, highlight its links to other subjects and support their oracy/public speaking skills!

This year we’re taking the competition online! Students are invited to create a short film of themselves responding to one (or two) of our Category Briefs:

KS3 Drama – Hercules’ Labours Rhapsode Battle

KS4 Drama – Ancient Icons

KS3 Latin – The Midas Touch

KS4 Latin – Romulus and Remus

We’re asking teachers to collate entries from their school and submit them to us by our deadline on 17th March 2021. Our panel of judges will then pick the winners! Each school will receive an announcement video where you’ll find out the category winners and we’ll send participation certificates and winners’ prizes to your school!

We’ve put together a Teacher Handbook which pulls together everything you need to know about the competition and how to prepare a film for your entries, alongside Category Support videos that talk through each brief and provide hints and tips for your students.
