When making your application, please consider the following:
Be specific. What exactly are you asking the Classical Association to contribute? In your application, please provide precise costings (indicating where these are estimates, if necessary). This demonstrates to us that you have a well-planned budget and makes it easier for us to award funds.
What is your target audience? Is your event aimed at schoolchildren or graduate students? Professional academics or interested members of the public? What is your expected attendance?
All applications for conferences should include a copy of the Call for Papers and conference programme (if available).
If you are applying for conference funding, don’t forget to include details of any other sources of funding you have applied for.
If you have any queries, please contact the CA.
When to apply
Grants of up to £2,500 are awarded by the Grants Committee. The committee considers applications four times a year. The deadlines for applications are:
- 1 March
- 1 June
- 1 September
- 1 December
You should submit your application by email in time for the appropriate deadline, making sure that you apply for a deadline which is at least three months before the start of your event.
Applications for amounts in excess of £2,500 are forwarded to the CA Council for decision. If you are applying for more than £2,500, you must submit your application in time for either the March or September deadlines.
OUTCOME OF GRANT APPLICATIONS
You will be contacted by email about the outcome of your application once the CA Grants Committee or CA Council has made its decision. Please note that where a grant is awarded the Classical Association’s support should be appropriately acknowledged in any publications, literature or webpages associated with your event or project.
It is also a condition of any grant that a report should be provided of how the funds were used:
- For small grants (of £2,500 or less), the report should include a brief breakdown of expenditure. Where bursaries have been awarded (e.g. for conferences or summer schools), you should also indicate how applications were assessed and/or prioritised).
- For major grants (of over £2,500), a full set of accounts should be submitted with the final report.
Please use the Grant Report Form for all reports other than Summer Schools, which should use the Summer School Grant Report Form. Your report should be submitted by email within three months of the completion of your event or project. If there are any unused funds left over from the CA grant, you should make arrangements to return these to the Classical Association.
Please take the time now to familiarise yourself with the appropriate report form. This is especially important for summer school applications.
