Professor Guy Bradley on ‘Power and performance culture: the Games in archaic Rome’

Guy Bradley is Professor of Roman and Early Italian History, having joined Cardiff University in 1996. His research has focused on ethnic identity in Roman and Latin colonies and on the history of early Rome within its Italian context. He has recently published articles on the demography and economy of early Rome, on the nature of central Italian elites, and on the secessions of the plebs as part of the mobile environment of central Italy. His publications include Early Rome to 290 BC: the beginnings of the city and the rise of the republic. The Edinburgh History of Ancient Rome (2020) and Ancient Umbria. State, culture, and identity in central Italy from the iron age to the Augustan era (2001). He has co-edited several volumes including (with Gary Farney) The peoples of Ancient Italy (2018).
