Advance notice of the annual UCL Classical Play (February 2026)
11 – 13 February 2026
Bloomsbury Theatre, London WC1H 0AH
We are delighted to announce that UCL’s 2026 Classical Play will be led by a professional director with professional choreography and sound design. The play will be part of UCL’s 200th anniversary celebrations.
Iphigenia, a sharp contemporary version of Iphigenia in Aulis by Euripides, will be adapted and directed by Simon Dormandy, and will have cutting-edge music and dance by Pierre Flasse and Meg Griffiths.
An army gathers to attack Troy but the gods demand a terrible price. Mutiny stirs as the leaders delay. How far will they go to save the expedition – and their own skins? Dark, brutal and at times grotesquely funny, Euripides’s great tragedy featuring Clytemnestra, Agamemnon, Iphigenia, and Achilles on the eve of war speaks to our present moment with startling immediacy.
