CA Conference 2025

OUR EVENTS

The highlight of our annual calendar is the CA Conference, a gathering of classics enthusiasts from all over the world. In 2025, we headed to the University of St Andrews, in partnership with the Classical Association of Scotland.

The Programme included a keynote lecture by Prof. Lucy Grig (University of Edinburgh) on Friday evening on Protest in Ancient Literature, and followed by a conversation with the CA’s Katrina Kelly and author, Dr Emily Hauser, about her new book Mythica.

On Saturday evening, we were treated to an excellent lecture by our President, Prof. Stephen Halliwell, followed by the Conference Dinner, Prizegiving and then a traditional ceilidh!

You can see what a Day at the Conference is like in our roundup reels here.

Highlights of the Conference included the awarding of the CA Prize to playwright Rob Icke and our Teaching Awards at the Conference Dinner; whisky tasting and piping as part of our collaboration with local experts; and panel sessions with the CA of Scotland about teaching and learning across the country.

A full programme of panels, papers and workshops throughout the three days of the conference explored the conference themes:

  • Classical reception
  • Late Antiquity
  • Classics and the environment
  • Working Class Classics
  • The challenge of interdisciplinarity
  • Classics and the heritage sector
  • Ancient animals
  • Classical pedagogies
  • Scottish classics
