Dartford Grammar School

The Classics department invites you to the annual Classics lecture, given this year by Simon Goldhill on Thursday, 12th February, 2026 at 6 pm in the Jefferson Lecture Theatre (S12).

Simon Goldhill FBA is both Professor of Greek Literature and Culture and John Harvard Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Cambridge. His career in Classics over almost fifty years has earned him many accolades in the academic world: he has been a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2009, a fellow of the British Academy since 2016, president of the European Institutes for Advanced Study, and director of the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH) at the University of Cambridge.

Professor Goldhill is one of the world’s foremost experts on the ancient Greeks, having published almost twenty books on the subject which have won three international prizes and been translated into ten languages. He has made regular television and radio appearances both in Britain and overseas and has been the subject of profiles in newspapers from Brazil to Australia.

The event is free of charge and will be enormously valuable to anyone with an interest in the ancient world or drama, and indeed to all students studying a tragic play in English at GCSE or IB level. If you plan to join us, please just RSVP by email to the address below: we warmly welcome guests of all ages from the DGS community and beyond.
