Who is the CA Conference for?

The 2026 CA Conference is for anyone with an interest in the ancient world! Fees have been subsidised and we provide hybridity so that people can join in and access the latest research and ideas in the field of classics. There is a huge range of papers and sessions and we hope there is something for everyone – whether you are a student, academic, teacher, history buff, language lover, archaeologist, creative, specialist, generalist or with zero background in classics, you’ll learn something new with us.

Can I submit a proposal?

The deadline for submissions to this Conference was in September 2025 so, unfortunately, we cannot receive any proposals to present at this Conference but we would love to welcome you as a delegate to enjoy all of the sessions. The window for submissions for our 2027 Conference will open in the summer of 2026 and more details, including the Conference location, will be available after April 2026.

Is the venue accessible? What facilities will there be?

The MMU Business School is fully accessible. You can explore the venue access guide here. There will be a cloakroom and some space for luggage storage. There will be a quiet space for use during the Conference, as well as seating areas with charging points and WiFi available throughout the building. Do ask our friendly students and volunteers for any assistance you may require.

What does a ticket include? Is there food available?

The in-person day fee includes coffee break refreshments and excellent lunch options, with dietary requirements catered for, as well as access to sessions, keynote performances, the careers festival, exhibitor stalls and the Friday evening drinks reception. Breakfast and dinner are not provided. There are other food options along the Oxford Road corridor: click here for more info. Please note that daytime catering will be vegetarian and vegan, in line with ManMet’s commitment to sustainability. A range of milks will be available in the refreshment breaks and pastries etc. will all be vegan.

What is the Conference Dinner? Is there a dress code?

You can sign up for the Saturday evening Conference Dinner, which includes a drinks reception and a three course meal, at the impressive Whitworth Hall. The Dinner includes the CA Prizegiving and Teaching Awards and is followed by Musical Entertainment (a Greek-style panegyri with Antama). There is an option to sign up for just the Musical Entertainment from 9pm. Make sure you book your tickets. The dress code is relaxed – wear what you feel comfortable in, smart or casual!

I’m a presenter – where can I find more information?

Information has been shared with presenters and will continue to be shared in the run up to the Conference e.g. presenting guidelines, slide sharing, chairing guide. If you are presenting as part of a pre-convened panel, please liaise with the Chair of your panel first before contacting us. Please note that we cannot provide printing facilities for scripts, handouts, posters etc.

Will there be photography at this event?

Yes, we will have photographers and videographers working throughout the Conference. By agreeing to the Conference policies upon signing up as a delegate you have acknowledged that you will let us know in advance or on the day if you would not like to be photographed; different coloured lanyards will be available to pick up from the registration desk. We kindly ask that everyone is mindful of fellow attendees wearing a non-photography lanyard and we ask that if you would like to take a photo or video please ask your fellow attendee(s) for their permission.

My institution requires a certificate of attendance/presentation, what can I do?

Please contact Katrina at engagement@classicalassociation.org to request your digital certificate by Tuesday 12 May. Requests beyond this deadline cannot be fulfilled.

Will sessions be hybrid?

We endeavour to make sessions hybrid for delegates to watch online and to submit questions/comments. Student helpers in each session will monitor the online meeting and chat function, alongside the Chair and any digital presenters. If you are intending to present online, you must have already corresponded with the team about this.

Can I move between sessions?

Due to the depth of the programme and the multiple contemporaneous sessions, you may wish to attend certain papers from one session and then move to a different paper in a parallel session; this is possible and all rooms are within the same building for ease of movement. Please be respectful of speakers and other delegates when moving rooms and do so quietly and tactfully.

Are there bursaries available?

Conference fees are already heavily subsidised and we are pleased to offer a concessionary rate to the unwaged and to CA members. We are unable to provide any further financial support, and would encourage those who have an institutional link to enquire internally about support for conference attendance.
