This is an invitation to present at or attend the next Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age/Archaic Aegean Network mini-conference that will take place on 13 May 2026. The event will be held in a hybrid format, with in-person presentations at the Institute of Classical Studies in London, and the option to join online. However, we encourage in-person attendance as much as possible, particularly for presenters. The exact timetable will be confirmed at a later date. The mini-conference will be followed by a presentation by James Whitley for the Mycenaean Seminar Series.
This is to be the ninth in a series of meetings aimed at laying the foundations for a network of Early Career Researchers and postgraduates with interests broadly embracing the archaeology of the Aegean region from the Late Bronze Age to the Archaic Period. The network first met in 2021 on the initiative of James Whitley, Robin Osborne and Irene Lemos, largely aiming to connect scholars who had not had opportunity to meet one another during lockdown phases of the pandemic. Events are designed to provide opportunities for postgraduate students and early-stage postdocs to make short presentations relating to their research interests and to receive helpful and constructive feedback from their peers.
We are keen that the network should evolve and develop over time and would therefore welcome the participation of any Early Career Researchers and postgraduates who are not already on our mailing list with interests broadly in the Late Bronze Age–Archaic Aegean, including in archaeology, anthropology, conservation, heritage studies and reception. Please feel free to forward this email to any colleagues or students whom you think might be interested in participating. Speakers can put themselves forward for either:
- 5 minute presentations (PowerPoint presentation optional)
- 20 minute presentations (with PowerPoint presentation), followed by discussion
There is no allocated theme for this conference: we encourage any and all interested in the Late Bronze Age–Archaic Aegean to share your research and interests. This will be a great opportunity for everyone with an interest in this period to meet and hear what their colleagues are up to, and to receive feedback on research in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Those who do not wish to present on this occasion are also very welcome to attend—we hope to see many of you there. There will be the opportunity to continue discussions at the pub afterwards.
There is a small pot of funding available for speakers who need to travel for this event. Please let us know you are interested in funding within the application form.
If you are interested in speaking, please complete the attached form (see link below) by Friday 27th March 2026. Registration for non-speaking attendees will remain open until the end of April.
