This seminar will explore current research on the theme of wonder (thauma), and how it offers a vital framework for thinking about craft production, description, and sensorial experiences in the ancient Mediterranean. Particular focus will be given to the importance of radiance and illumination, and in turn how display strategies in museum galleries and other settings can inspire wonder and amazement among today’s audiences.
