The Belfast Summer School 2024 is open for registration.
We will meet in Belfast at Queen’s University from Monday 22nd July until Friday 26th July. Alternatively, online dates are Monday 8th July until Friday 19th July (no classes on Saturday or Sunday). Classes take place from 1pm until 4pm (UK time, UTC+1) with a break between 2pm and 3pm. On most afternoons at 4.15pm you are invited to a guest lecture. We have scheduled the classes in order to take advantage of a number of time zones. Students are welcome to join us from anywhere in the world!
In addition to Classical Greek and Latin, we are excited to offer new courses online:
- a Beginners Classical Greek course tailored for young people aged 10-14,
- modern Greek for Beginners, and
- an Introduction to Egyptology.
Everyone is welcome to join our online guest lectures. Almost all online guest speakers have been confirmed, and these include writer Caroline Lawrence, Dr Jane Masséglia (University of Leicester), Dr Vittorio Bufacchi (University College Cork), Dr Richard Kendall (University of Edinburgh), and Dr Philip Burton (University of Birmingham).

The in-person summer school is the one occasion in the year when tutors and students can get together in the real world, away from Zoom. We meet at Queen’s University Belfast from Monday 22nd July until Friday 26th July.

We are excited to welcome Jeremy Lam (Trinity College Dublin) who will give a talk about the Homeric Hymn to Hermes. Our other guest speaker is Amber Taylor, who will also be teaching Latin.
An optional outing takes place on Wednesday 24th July to the Thermopylae Battlefield Garden at Kilwarlin Moravian Church in County Down.

There are a small number of bursaries available for either the online or in-person summer school. There is no age limit to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who would not be otherwise able to attend.
