The Corpus Christi Classics Centre’s annual lecture will take place on Wednesday 29 April at 5pm in the Al Jaber Auditorium at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor Barbara Graziosi from Princeton University on ‘Sappho: A New Proposal’.
Professor Graziosi contends in this talk that scholars have not paid sufficient attention to the material conditions under which Sappho’s poetry was produced. The talk adopts a basic Marxist framework to open up two complementary lines of investigation: one into Sappho’s poetry as superstructural production and the other into liberating readings of her work.
