JACT Latin Summer School 2022

  • Harrogate Ladies' College

The JACT Latin Summer School, (aka “Latin Camp!”)  is a two-week UK residential course based at Harrogate Ladies’ College in Yorkshire.

Applications are now open for 2022: the dates are Monday 18th July to Saturday 30th July.

Please see our website for further information and simple online application, as well as full details on all our different courses suitable for students and how we feel each cohort will benefit. It also contains details on such things as our costs, our tutors (who come almost entirely from teaching backgrounds and usually at very highly regarded UK schools), the facilities and accommodation, our typical programme of events, our policy on U18 students and hopefully a feel for “Camp life” generally.

We have a very strong line in supporting university students as well as school children. I am particularly proud of our no-nonsense beginners’ course for people who want to rapidly acquire the “basics” of the language – university offer holders about to begin with no prior Latin might especially consider this. However we also offer courses for those who have recently begun Latin at university and are at various levels with it. This could suit equally undergraduates, postgraduates or even lecturers from classical or other disciplines who for whatever reason are starting Latin as adults. (We have for example had American university professors with us as students.)

Bespoke courses for teachers

In addition we have been developing a 2-week bespoke course for the increasing number of good graduates going straight into teaching jobs with no formal teaching qualifications. The course tutors are all highly qualified subject specialists, of whom almost all are practising Classics teachers from some of the UK’s leading schools.  For information on bespoke courses available for teachers, ranging from beginners to advanced as well as teaching Latin up to GCSE and at A Level, see here.
