CA Conference 2024
OUR EVENTS
The highlight of our annual calendar is the CA Conference, a gathering of classics enthusiasts from all over the world. In 2024, we headed to the University of Warwick with our President, Anne Carson.

The Programme included a keynote lecture by Yannis Hamilakis (Joukowsky Family Professor of Archaeology and Professor of Modern Greek Studies at Brown University) on Friday evening on ‘Undoing Monumental Racecraft: The Acropolis Otherwise’, introduced by ex-CA Prizewinner Michael Scott, and followed by a conversation with ex-CA President, bestselling author, Lindsey Davis.

On Saturday evening, we were treated to an unique performance by our wonderful President, award-winning poet, translator and professor of classical languages, Anne Carson followed by the Conference Dinner, the Prizegiving and Teaching Awards, and drinks receptions.
Highlights on Sunday included the inaugural Young Speaker Keynote, a workshop with Write2Speak, and a performance of the Octavia. The exhibition ‘Black Classicists’ was displayed in the Atrium of the Faculty of Arts Building throughout the conference.
The Warwick Arts Centre offered a film screening with live accompaniment run by Maria Wyke, entitled Museum of Dreams: The Classical World in Silent Cinema, including a Q&A session on Sunday.
Workshops relevant to teaching Classics, Classical Civilisation, Archaeology, and Ancient History in all its rich diversity included sessions focusing upon Teaching with Inscriptions; Student engagement in classical subjects, from school to university; Utilising ancient coins and tokens; Teaching Queer Pasts; Performing and Producing Drama; Teaching in Translation. Delegates had the opportunity to engage in discussion about the future of the curriculum, via a workshop run by the Classical Association Teaching Board, in collaboration with OCR.
Approaches to language teaching were discussed via workshops on Latin Language Teaching: EDI and course intensity and Interactive Learning Adventures for Classical Languages in the Spatial Metaverse Language-teaching, run by colleagues from the Universidad de La Sabana in Colombia. A full programme of panels and workshops throughout the three days of the conference explored the conference themes:
