The CA is proud to support the work of our local branches and we offer generous start up grants, support for speakers’ travel and accommodation expenses, and funding for a range of outreach activities.

The CA welcomes grant applications from branches for financial support – this may be for a range of needs or activities, such as running competitions or school events, or paying reasonable travel and accommodation costs for speakers. Grants given are usually between £200-£1000, but larger grants may be available. We are particularly keen to support initiatives that make classics accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. To apply (at any stage during the year, leaving as much time as possible before you require the money), please email a completed Branch Grant Application Form to the CA’s Grants Co-ordinator, Jane Fortuna, and copy in the Branches Co-ordinator, Katrina Kelly. New branches will receive a £500 start up grant.
If you are applying for funds to support an event aimed at school-age learners, please provide details of:
- The number and age(s) of students expected to participate the event;
- How your event will benefit students from state-maintained schools and/or students from backgrounds which are traditionally under-represented in the teaching of classical subjects;
- How you intend to advertise the event, bearing access, widening participation and EDI considerations in mind;
- How you will communicate and/or monitor the success of the initiative (e.g. social media posts, blog entry, student or teacher questionnaires, photos).
As well as a brief breakdown of costs, your application should include any supporting documentation providing further details of your planned event.
