JACT Greek Summer School (July – August 2025)

The 57th JACT Greek Summer School took place in the peaceful surroundings of Bryanston school from 30th July to 9th August. Almost 300 students from all backgrounds, different stages of their education, and even abroad attended over 30 hours of Greek language tuition over the 2-week Summer School. Some were learning Greek for the first time, others strengthening their understanding of the language, and some were teachers refreshing their skills to take back to their classrooms.

As well as the Greek instruction, students also benefited from a wonderful series of lectures and seminars. This year we welcomed some fantastic visiting lecturers, as well as enjoying entertaining lectures from our team of tutors, ranging from topics such as the Parthenon Marbles, the reception of Sophocles’ poetry through the years, and the poetry of Homer.

An entertaining social and extra-curricular programme brought us two wonderful student plays: Aristophanes’ Peace, performed in English, with colourful props and costumes made by the students, and a memorable performance of Euripides’ Iphigenia Among the Taurians. The talent of the next generation of Classicists, brought together in this community of Greek students, is incredible.
