Pilot Theatre: ‘My Myth’ Project

My Myth engaged students from secondary school Cramlington Learning Village in a creative exploration of ancient myths.

In collaboration with Pilot Theatre and Northern Stage, the project enabled 21 students, aged 14-18, to participate in Drama workshops which focused on the myths of Actaeon and Diana, Medusa, Orpheus and Eurydice, and Persephone. The culmination of the project was a devised performance, performed to over 150 attendees at Northern Stage, which showcased the students’ imaginative reinterpretation of the Persephone myth from the perspective of young people living in the North East.

This project was part of a wide-reaching engagement programme for Pilot Theatre’s national touring production A Song for Ella Grey. A new stage adaptation of David Almond’s Young Adult novel, the performance was a contemporary retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, receiving critical acclaim (4* The Guardian) and high profile media coverage (featured on BBC’s Front Row).
