Call for Papers: British Epigraphy Society Autumn Colloquium

DATE: Saturday, November 14th 2026

VENUE: Senate House

British Epigraphy Society – Autumn Colloquium

Institute of Classical Studies, Senate House, London

14 November 2026

The BES Autumn Colloquium is an annual gathering of the Society, open to members and non-members alike, which brings together researchers from the UK and beyond for a day of discussion and exchange on –especially but by no means exclusively– Greek and Latin epigraphy, framed by a set of oral paper presentations as well as poster presentations.

The next Autumn Colloquium is scheduled to take place in London on Saturday, 14 November 2026.

The BES Steering Committee would like to invite you to present a paper or poster relating to your epigraphic research. This can be a discussion of an individual inscription or set of inscriptions, or a synthesis of work with inscriptions. It can deal with any type of epigraphy, whether from the classical Mediterranean or further afield. You are welcome to present challenges of reading and interpreting inscriptions with which you would like help! This is a chance to discuss work in progress. We aim to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere in which you can try out your ideas.

Submissions are welcome from scholars at all career stages, including students and postdocs.

In addition to papers and posters, proposals are also invited for brief reports on ongoing epigraphic projects or new discoveries.

Student and postdoc participants will be eligible to apply for a bursary intended to help with attendance at the meeting.

Please submit a short abstract of your proposal to the Society’s Secretary at i.bultrighini@ucl.ac.uk by 15 June 2026.
