JACT Latin Summer School 2027
Sunday 18 July – Saturday 31 July
Duchy College (formerly Harrogate Ladies’ College), Yorkshire
Please watch this brief promotional video (filmed during Camp 2025) which encapsulates the essence of everything we are about.
Our website gives full details on all that we offer as well as a simple online application form, but in particular please see the current course programme here, which lays out the standard daily routine and programme of lectures, grammar clinics, trips and events which will give you an immediate idea of what we are about. You might also like to see here the director’s report on the last summer school.
The summer school also offers bespoke groups for people in or planning to enter the teaching profession – please see here for details. Funding is often available from us via the CA or CfA to support current or aspirant teachers joining us, particularly teachers in the state sector for whom we can sometimes secure a fully funded place.
At our core is the intensive preparation and reading of Latin texts. This happens formally in small teaching sets of very similar ability and experience but far more unquantifiable learning happens in all the “in-between” moments, be they in groups between lessons sat out in the sun, or at night in the boarding houses. That said, Latin Camp is about so much more than just reading Latin. It’s about the camaraderie of meeting like-minded people. It’s about bonding in the houses. It’s about witnessing the interaction of staff, students and speakers. It’s about the joy of the Hellenic Bookservice visiting and setting up their shop just for us. It’s about the quiz, the site visits, the staff play, the costume party. It’s about discovering, identifying with and joining a wider community of classicists, making contacts and friends for life.
Note: this is not a Classical Association event – please contact the organisers directly with any enquiries.
