The next ICS Ancient History Seminar in our series on Magic and Religion in the Ancient Mediterranean will take place on Thursday, 8 October, at 4:30 pm (BST), ONLINE ONLY.
Professor Jessica Lamont (Yale University): “Magic in Roman and Late Antique Corinth”
“This presentation provides an overview of current epigraphic and historical research on magic, ritual, and religion from Corinth, Greece, undertaken by Dr J. Curbera (Inscriptiones Graecae, Berlin) and myself through the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies at Corinth. With particular focus on rites and practices deemed ‘magical’ during the period of the city’s Roman refoundation and later Late Antique transformation, this talk highlights new work and discoveries, and how they can be used to advance historical understandings of daily life in Roman Greece. Special focus will be given to the Late Antique period.”
The seminar is free to attend, but advance booking is required to access the online event. Further details and registration are available here.
Note: this is not a Classical Association event – please contact the organisers directly with any enquiries.
