Belfast Summer School in Greek and Latin

DATE: Monday, July 21st 2025 - Friday, July 25th 2025

VENUE: Queen's University Belfast

This is the 10th year of the Belfast Summer School in Greek and Latin, and we have some special activities planned for the in-person meeting in Belfast, including special guests.

Join us in Belfast from Monday 21st July until Friday 25th July. We have a 10th Belfast Summer School page here.

If you’re unable to come to Belfast, then students can take Latin and ancient Greek classes online, from 30th June until 11th July. Language classes range from complete beginners to those who wish to read unadapted texts in the advanced groups.

We are also offering an online Introduction to Ancient Epic from 30th June until 9th July. This course will acquaint students with such works as Gilgamesh, the Aeneid, the Argonautica, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Enuma Elish, Hesiod’s Theogony and Works and Days, and Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey.

Additional note:

This year, I’m able to offer a small number of bursaries to the Belfast Summer School: successful applicants will receive one week of tuition either online or in-person in Belfast. If they wish to top this up to attend both weeks of online tuition, they may do so. Preference will be given to applicants who would not be otherwise able to attend. Please email helen@helenmcveigh.co.uk with your reasons for wishing to join a Summer School course, and the course you would like to attend.

There are some spaces available in all classes: Beginners, Post-Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Greek and Latin, and an introduction to epic (online only). Online classes begin on Monday 30th June until Friday 11th July, while the in-person classes take place for one week, commencing 21st July. There is no deadline for registration, but classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Note: this is a fee-paying event run by an organisation which is not affiliated to, or funded by, the Classical Association
